Giddy up: Improve Speed and Performance of WordPress

Websites run across a multitude of devices on a variety of different speeds. With Google punishing slow loading websites, it has never been so important to optimise the performance of your website. Luckily for us, the WordPress community have some great plugins that we can use for free!

Cache your site.

Caching improves the user experience of your site by increasing server performance, reducing the download times. I’ve listed the two most popular plugins available

Image Optimisation

  • WP This plugin scans every image you upload and cuts all the unnecessary meta data for you. This drastically reduces file size and in turn, improves page loads.
  • Image Optimiser: This plugin applies Lossless reductions for PNG and JPG images uploaded via admin. This will cut up to 30% off your image size and will again make pages load faster.

Content Delivery Network is a network of servers that deliver cached static content from websites to users based on their geographic location. This results in improved speed and performance. Cloudflare offer a free service and it’s simple to set up.
